This month Anna was also directing ‘Face Divided’ by Edward Allan Baker. This 1980s one act play is set in the emergency room of a Providence, RI hospital where Debbie waits for her husband. Their daughter, Jess, had an accident, at least, that is the story she is sticking to. ‘Face Divided’ was presented along with two other one acts and had a 6 night run at Under St Marks Theater on New York’s Lower East Side. The proceeds from this production went to The Changing Room 11.
British writer Nkenna Akunna was in New York this month working with Anna on the first public workshop production of her new play ‘Good Fit’. This hard-hitting, darkly comical piece follows a Muslim woman’s journey through London the day after a terrorist attack. Presented by The Dare Tactic, ‘Good Fit’ played to a sold out audience at WOW Cafe Theatre on April 13th.
This month Anna has been working with up and coming New York playwright, S.A.B.U, on their new play, The W.H.I.T.E.N.E.S.S. This was the first public reading of the piece and Anna is very much looking forward to continuing work on it!
Burn It Down is a collaborative community of artists, established with the aim of learning more about filmmaking by creating new work in a safe environment. Once a month they meet to shoot a short film for the purpose of learning and burning through their 10,000 hours of experience! It’s a really incredible initiative and Anna had an awesome day directing for them.
This week Anna directed a twelve hour night shoot with the wonderful cast and crew of ‘Astronaut Play’ by the incredible Leslie Gauthier. Another long night but such an amazing group and a really special story.
